OUR STORY

Nelson Motor Yachts is led by Nelson Boat Owners Club historian and enthusiast, Steve Brenner, and trusted, time served shipwright Andrew Oliver – who both share a passion for boats and boat building. After revisiting the origins of the Nelson brand; a ‘Keith Nelson & Company’ classic, designed by John Askham (1962), Nelson Motor Yachts Ltd was formed. Restarting the production of the ‘Nelson 18’ also included a unique opportunity to use the original Halmatic GRP mould tooling.

Nelson Motor Yachts Limited has been formed to continue production of the classic Nelson 18 using original Halmatic mould tooling, in-house.

To bring the design up to modern standards, Arthur Mursell, Managing Director of TT Boat Designs Limited, was asked to provide the necessary calculations and documentation for CE (CA in the UK) approval. Surprisingly, very few changes were necessary to enable the original design to pass these new rules as the structure, as originally designed, is inherently very strong.

A new internal GRP floor stiffening grid replaces older wooden bearers and stringers, as well as an all new GRP floor, engine box and seating arrangement.

Two versions are available: Open Launch and Long Cabin
